Process

Please have some photos of you or your loved one’s eyes ready for the commission. I can work off of one photo, but multiple photos are best so we can decide together which one works best for the painting.  Let me know if you would like the painting to feature a specific color or include any small details that are not in the photo. When applicable, I will send you a digital rough draft to make sure that we agree on the idea for the painting, and then we can continue to the deposit and I can get started on the painting! I will send you photos when I am finished with it to make sure that you are happy with your piece before payment and shipping.

Materials

All paintings are painted with Golden archival acrylics and varnished with a UV resistant varnish. An isolation coat is applied between the painting and varnish for conservation purposes. These are the highest quality materials which will ensure that your painting lasts as long as possible with minimal fading from sunlight exposure, even if you hang it near a window.
Cradled boards have their sides stained and finished, and are equipped with picture wire on the back so they are ready to be hung (see examples above).

Timeline

Turnover time (from the time I receive photos to painting ready to ship) for commissions is typically 3-6 weeks, depending on how many commissions I have at any given time. This includes the time it takes for the paint and varnish to fully cure, which adds on about 1.5 weeks.

Shipping

Shipping available worldwide – note that since I am based in the United States, shipping outside the U.S. is a lot more expensive than local shipping.
If you are based in the Gainesville area or nearby, I am happy to arrange for pickup or to meet to avoid shipping costs.

Payment

Payment is accepted via credit card and bank transfer.
A deposit of 50% (plus tax) is due before I can start on a painting, after we have discussed and agreed upon the painting concept. The remaining final payment will be due before shipping.
I will send a quote for the full price (plus tax and shipping) before the initial deposit.

How to take a great photo of the eye:

  • Sunlight is usually the best lighting source, so it is advisable to take the photo outdoors or in a well-lit room.

  • Experiment with looking different directions to change the expression of your eye until you are happy with it.

  • Try to keep your eye wide open and don’t squint – unless that is the look you are going for!

  • Try your light source from different directions – having the light source coming from the side vs directly above vs from below will look vastly different.

  • Have fun with it! It’s not every day that you get to be an eye model. If you aren’t able to achieve the results or pose you want, please feel free to contact me for tips.

Disclaimer

By commissioning me for a painting, you acknowledge that you are not purchasing any rights to reproduce the painting, only the physical object. I maintain the copyrights to any commissioned paintings unless expressly written otherwise - which includes but is not limited to sharing on social media, making prints, etc.
If you would like to share your painting on social media, please, go ahead and tag me if you do! I love to see my paintings in their final homes.
I will NEVER share your name, info, or original eye photos when I share a painting, and all eye photos are deleted after a commission. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the agreement.
